Claude CoWork Is Now on Mobile and Web

Automated background tasks can now follow you from desk to phone to browser, and that changes how UK teams will work with AI this autumn.

On 07/07/2026, Anthropic announced that Claude CoWork is expanding beyond the desktop application to the web at claude.ai and to iOS and Android. The rollout is starting with Max plan subscribers and will open to additional plans over the coming weeks. Anthropic has extended its doubled CoWork usage limits through 05/08/2026 to mark the occasion.

What changed technically

Until now, CoWork required a running Claude desktop app on Mac or Windows. If you closed your laptop mid-task, the session stopped with it. With the mobile and web expansion, sessions are hosted on Anthropic's servers, not on your device. That means a task can keep running, complete its steps, and have results waiting for you whether or not any device is online.

Chat and CoWork now share a single home tab on web and desktop: one sidebar, one search bar, and one place for your Projects and Artefacts. You can start a task at your desk in the morning, check its status from your phone at noon, and open the finished result in a browser wherever you happen to be.

What the usage data shows

Alongside the launch, Anthropic released data from 1.2 million anonymised CoWork sessions across more than 600,000 organisations. The finding that stands out: more than 90% of sessions had nothing to do with software development. The largest single category, at 33.4%, was business process work, pulling scattered updates into a single report, building onboarding checklists, reconciling spreadsheets. The rest covered research, document drafting, and general workflow coordination.

This tells you something useful about who is actually using CoWork and what for. It is not primarily a developer tool. It is a business operations tool that happens to be built by an AI company.

Why this matters for UK businesses

Small and mid-sized UK businesses rarely have dedicated operations or admin teams. The same person who handles client calls often also maintains the supplier spreadsheet and writes the weekly update. AI tools that require you to sit at a desktop while a task runs simply do not fit that working pattern.

Mobile approvals change this. If CoWork is compiling a supplier comparison or assembling a briefing document, you can approve its next step from your phone while you are on a client site. You do not have to be back at your desk for the work to continue.

The new Microsoft 365 connector write tools, shipped alongside the expansion, add further reach. CoWork can now draft and send email, manage calendar events, and create or update files in OneDrive and SharePoint, all without you opening those applications manually. For UK businesses already running on Microsoft 365, which is the majority of the SME market, this makes AI-assisted coordination a practical daily tool rather than a separate project to set up.

Overnight or scheduled jobs also benefit directly. If you have a weekly research task or a report that needs compiling each Monday, you can now set it running without leaving a computer on to do it. The session lives in Anthropic's cloud and hands you the result when it is done.

One thing to try this week

If you are on a Claude Max plan, open claude.ai in a browser and check whether CoWork is available in your account. If it is, pick one task you currently do manually each week, something like gathering updates from three sources and summarising them, and set it up as a scheduled CoWork session. Run it twice and note whether the output is good enough to save you meaningful time.

If CoWork on web or mobile has not reached your plan yet, it should do so within the next few weeks as the rollout continues.
