CLAUDE COWORK

Claude Cowork configured for business operations

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's desktop AI agent for non-coding work. I configure it around your files, quality standards and processes so it can produce useful business outputs rather than waiting for someone to prompt it one step at a time.

The work between the systems

Businesses lose time in documents, spreadsheets, folders and repeated handoffs. Cowork works directly on files in a local folder and can handle multi-step tasks such as reading source material, extracting information, drafting a deliverable and organising the output. It is designed for the operational work that a coding assistant does not address.

Used in real client work

I have used Cowork since its research preview in January 2026 and use it daily across client work. The important capability is not simply opening the application. It is configuring the instructions, file structure and review process so the output meets a business standard consistently.

Skills that encode your standards

A Skill is a markdown-based set of instructions that tells Cowork how your business expects a task to be done. I can shape Skills around your tone, branding, document structure, terminology and quality checks. Rough notes can become a polished proposal or report without someone re-explaining the same rules every time.

  • Branded proposals and reports from rough notes
  • Structured extraction from spreadsheets, images and raw files
  • Output rules for format, tone and completeness
  • Repeatable processes that are easier to review

Plugins for teams

Team Plugins package Skills, connectors and workflows for a particular role or department. That makes it possible to configure different working patterns for sales, operations, finance or client delivery while keeping the relevant process and compliance requirements close to the work. The goal is not to automate judgement away; it is to make the right process easier to follow.

What a configured workflow feels like

Instead of copying a brief into a chat window, prompting repeatedly and manually formatting the result, a team can place the source files in an agreed folder and start a defined task. Cowork reads the relevant context, follows the configured Skill and produces an output that can be reviewed. That is a more useful operating model than hoping every colleague remembers the perfect prompt.

Responsible automation

I define what Cowork may do autonomously and where a person must check the result. Sensitive information, approvals, external communications and consequential decisions need appropriate controls. I help map the process, set review points and test edge cases before a workflow is introduced to a wider team.

A practical starting point

The best first use case is usually a repeated, document-heavy task with a clear definition of good. We can start with one workflow, examine the output and improve the Skill before adding connectors or a team Plugin. This keeps the work grounded, measurable and easy for people to adopt.

From example output to a dependable Skill

I start by collecting examples of the work your team already considers good, alongside the common failures that create rework. Those examples become practical instructions: which source files to read, which structure to follow, what language to avoid, when to ask for clarification and what a reviewer must check. We can then run the Skill against representative material and refine it. This makes the configuration specific to your business rather than a collection of generic prompt tips. The result should help a colleague produce consistent work while still making it clear where professional judgement is required.

Documents, data and client deliverables

Typical work includes turning rough notes into polished Word documents, extracting clean structured data from spreadsheets, images and raw files, and preparing branded client deliverables. The benefit is not that every output is accepted without checking. It is that the repetitive preparation is handled consistently, leaving the person responsible for the work more time to review the substance, make a decision and speak to the client.

A setup your team can understand

I explain what each Skill does, where its rules come from and how to improve it when the business changes. That keeps the workflow useful after handover.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude Cowork?

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's desktop AI agent for document creation, data processing, file management and other non-coding business work. It operates directly on files rather than only responding in a chat window.

What are Skills?

Skills are markdown-based instructions that encode your output standards, branding, process and quality rules so Cowork can apply them consistently.

What are Plugins?

Plugins are role-based packages that bundle Skills, connectors and workflows for a team or department, including relevant process and compliance requirements.

Can Cowork work without human review?

Some bounded tasks can be largely autonomous, but I define review points around risk. Sensitive data, approvals and consequential outputs should have appropriate human oversight.

Do you train our team as well?

Yes. I can configure the workflow and explain how the team should use, review and improve it. Broader AI enablement is covered on the AI training page.
