Claude Now Writes the Report and Builds the Slides
Anthropic merged Claude Cowork into ordinary Claude chat on 16/09/2026 and added Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta. The tab you work in no longer decides what Claude can do for you.
The tab you pick no longer decides what Claude can do for you.
What happened
On 16/09/2026 Anthropic merged Claude Cowork, its agentic workspace, back into ordinary Claude chat. There is no longer a separate place for bigger jobs. You ask, Claude works out whether the request is a quick answer or a multi step piece of work, and it carries on with the same context, connectors and skills you already had.
Two new things shipped alongside it. Claude Docs writes and edits documents with you, lets colleagues collaborate on the same file, and exports to Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Claude Slides drafts and edits presentations, presents them from inside Claude, and downloads as PowerPoint or PDF. Claude Design, previously a product of its own, now works inside conversations too. All three are in beta on paid plans.
The rollout started with Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile, spreading over the following weeks. Team and Free plans follow. Enterprise administrators get at least 30 days notice before anything changes for their organisation, and they decide when to switch Docs and Slides on.
Why it matters for UK businesses
Two reasons, and the second one is the bigger of the pair.
The first is that the decision has gone. Small and mid sized firms rarely employ anyone whose job is to know which AI tab handles which task, so in practice people default to the simplest box and ask small questions of a tool that could have done the whole job. Removing that choice removes a quiet tax on the people least likely to complain about it.
The second is that Claude now produces the thing itself rather than the raw material for it. Until this week you got text and then did the assembly by hand. Now the report and the deck come out of the same conversation, so the slides already agree with the document, and the whole lot can be scheduled to run every Monday morning without anyone asking.
How Adevious AI sees it
We would point this at recurring internal reporting before anything else. The monthly management pack, the weekly pipeline summary, the site progress report: work where the shape stays the same and only the numbers move. That is exactly where routing, Docs and Slides together earn their keep, and it is also where a poor draft costs you nothing because you were going to read it anyway.
Three cautions, and we would weigh all of them before rolling this out to a team.
Billing is the first. Agentic work consumes far more tokens than a chat exchange does, and Claude now makes the escalation call rather than you. A question you would once have typed into plain chat can quietly run as a multi step job. On a Pro or Max seat that shows up as hitting usage limits at an awkward hour rather than as an invoice, but it still stings. Watch your own usage for a fortnight before you promise anyone a saving.
Beta is the second. Docs and Slides shipped this week, and Enterprise administrators have not even been handed the switch yet. Do not put a client deliverable through either one this month without reading every line of it first.
Control is the third. Claude asks before acting by default, and there is a setting that lets it keep going and check in only when something looks serious. That setting is convenient and it is also the moment you hand over judgement. Leave the prompts on until you have watched it work on your own data for a while, particularly if that data includes anything personal.
One thing to do this week
Pick the single report somebody on your team rebuilds by hand every week. Give Claude last month's version, tell it the house style and what you want flagged, then ask for the updated document and five slides from the same prompt. Put the result next to what your team produced. Twenty minutes of that will teach you more about where this fits, and where it does not, than a fortnight of reading about it.
If you would like a hand working out which of your recurring jobs are worth handing over and which are better left alone, get in touch with Adevious AI. We are happy to look at the awkward ones.
