Replit Now Runs From Inside Claude and ChatGPT
Replit has opened its platform to outside AI assistants, so you can build and publish apps from Claude, ChatGPT or Slack. Here is what that changes for UK businesses, and where to be careful.
You can now build a Replit app without ever opening Replit.
On 11/09/2026 Replit switched on support for desktop clients that speak the Model Context Protocol, the open standard that lets an AI assistant reach outside tools. Replit already had native connections into ChatGPT, Claude and Slack. This change opens the same door to any client that supports streaming connections and standard sign-in, which currently includes Codex and Claude Code. You paste one server address, sign in to Replit, pick which workspace to connect, and the assistant can see your apps.
What the connector actually does
The tool list is short and deliberate. You can start a new app from a plain description, choosing from website, mobile app, design, slides, animation, data visualisation, 3D game, document or spreadsheet. You can search your apps by name, by address or by when they were last touched. You can ask a question about an app without changing anything. You can kick off a change, publish the app, and check whether the publish has finished and what the public address is. That is the whole set.
Note what is missing. There is no file level editing, no access to logs, no rollback. The connector is a front door, not a workshop.
Why it matters for UK businesses
The bottleneck in a small firm is rarely the building. It is the context switch. Someone asks whether the booking form is live, and answering it means finding the right tab, remembering which of four similarly named projects is the real one, and checking a deployment status. Being able to ask that question in the same window where you are already writing the reply is a small change that removes a daily irritation.
There is a UK footnote worth reading alongside it. On 08/09/2026 Replit opened its first international office in London, in the King's Cross Knowledge Quarter, with the Mayor of London at the ribbon cutting. The company says London will be the hub for its European operations and that it expects to double headcount and investment over the coming year. European customers named in the announcement include PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young, Mercedes-Benz and Trustpilot. For a British business weighing up a platform, a staffed office in your own time zone is a reasonable thing to factor in, though it is worth saying plainly that an office is not the same as data residency, and nothing in this week's news changes where your apps actually run.
How Adevious AI sees it
We would connect this, but not for building.
The two questions that quietly cost time are "which app was that again" and "is the current version live". Those are exactly what search, publish status and the read-only question tool answer well. Real building we would still do inside Replit, where you can watch the agent work and read what it changed before it lands.
Three cautions before you wire it up.
First, publishing is a single tool call with no approval step in the sequence. An assistant working from a loosely worded instruction can push a half-finished change to a live address. That is a governance problem, not a technical one, and it is yours to solve with process.
Second, authorisation is granted at workspace level. Once connected, the assistant can edit any app you can edit in that workspace. There is no per-app permission.
Third, because there is no log access or rollback in the tool set, the moment something breaks you are back in Replit anyway. Treat the connector as a convenience layer, not a replacement for knowing your way around the platform.
One thing to do this week
Split your workspaces before you connect anything. Create a separate Replit workspace for work that a chat assistant is allowed to touch, keep production apps out of it, and connect only that one. Then spend twenty minutes asking the assistant to list and describe what is in there. You will learn more about how much it understands your estate from that exercise than from any amount of reading, and you will do it somewhere a mistake costs nothing.
If you are running apps on Replit and want a sensible view on where to draw the line between convenience and control, we are always happy to talk it through. Get in touch with Adevious AI.
