Keep the source with the result
The design retains a relationship between source information and the result it supports. Changes to the source need to be detectable before a previous answer is reused.
Ongoing research & development
I am developing calculation engines that connect a result to its source information and the rules used to produce it. This is ongoing engineering work, with review and evidence built into the process.
The design retains a relationship between source information and the result it supports. Changes to the source need to be detectable before a previous answer is reused.
Versioned rules allow a result to be understood against the calculation basis that produced it, even as the engine develops.
Unsupported cases and missing information need a route for human review. They should not disappear behind an apparently complete answer.
The development includes verification of calculation behaviour and the evidence needed to inspect it. Professional judgement remains part of the workflow.
Why this matters
The aim is to help people examine complex calculations more efficiently, with enough evidence to challenge a result. This research is still in development.
